Generic Viagra (Sildenafil Oral Drug)
What is Sildenafil?
Sildenafil means medications produced according to the same chemical composition as the original, Viagra, but by other pharmaceutical manufacturers. In order to make sure that the quality of generics is not worse than the originals’ one, it is important to pay much attention to companies manufacturing them. A big advantage of analogues is their moderate price along with the characteristics similar to the originals’ ones. Companies producing generics work with the ready formula and do not spend money on elaboration of production process and advertising. Therefore, their prime cost is several-fold lower. Another advantage of generics is diversity of their dosages and forms of presentation. Original medications are issued only in form of tablets for peroral absorption. Viagra generics are distinguished by a great variety of dosages and presentation forms. Each man is able to choose the most convenient form individually.
Instructions
Take a pill of Sildenafil with a sufficient amount of water 40 to 60 minutes before the anticipated sexual activity. Sildenafil can be taken with or without food. Taking Sildenafil on an empty stomach increases absorption speed and efficacy of the drug, but at the same time augments the possibility of side events. To minimize side effects, it is recommended to take Sildenafil after a light meal. Avoid taking this medication after meals with high content of fat, alcohol or grapefruit juice.
Is There a Difference Between Generic and Brand Viagra?
The effects of both brand and generic drug are identical, and so are side effects, posology and taking instructions, dosing recommendations and safety information. The appearance, the name, the package and the price is what is different between Viagra and generic product. The generic drug, or equivalent, therefore contains the same active ingredient of the medicinal specialty from which it derives, and its name can refer exclusively to this active ingredient – in this case, Sildenafil citrate.
On the other hand, generic drug must demonstrate that it is bioequivalent to the branded drug: same therapeutic indications, same dose-effect ratio, same pharmaceutical form and administration route. Manufacturers must also ensure that generics meet the same quality requirements as the original drugs: the same purity, stability and a suitable final packaging.
If it complies with all these conditions, it is extremely unlikely that the generic will differ significantly in terms of efficacy and safety from the original. Therefore, preclinical drug reviews (such as animal studies) need not be repeated. It is also for this reason reduced experimental iter that equivalent drugs cost less; in particular, the Italian legislation establishes a price reduced for at least 20% for generic medicines compared to the corresponding reference medicine: a great saving both for patients and, in the case of reimbursable drugs, for the national health system.
